PILGRIMS AU PAIN PROVIDES TWO UNIQUE EXPERIENCES


 
 

Live for a week in France’s Favorite Village, medieval St Cirq Lapopie in SW France. Stay in Maison d’Être, Ann’s 15th c. home surrounded by a magical village that has been protected from the passage of time. There is enchantment everywhere. You will be immersed in life here and welcomed by the residents, restaurants, and boutiques. You will visit markets, see cave paintings and dine in a chateau …all in “France Profonde.” Enjoy the pleasures of regional cuisine… think foie Gras, truffles and saffron.

Ann has visited the village since 1986 and became a resident in 2009. She speaks French and lives in the village in the Spring and Fall. She operates Maison d’Être as a “gite,” or weekly rental, in the summers.

Learn baking and pastry techniques from professional baker, Pat Hains. Using the ancient bread oven at Maison d’Être, you will create your own journey as Pilgrims au Pain. Pat Hains has studied bread baking in France, Italy and Germany. Her focus has been on European breads and the use of pre-ferments and sourdoughs. She received the highest honor in her formal training in 2011 in German Bread Baking at the Akademie des deutschen Bäckerhandwerk Weinheim.

For the past six years, Pat has taught bread and pastry classes using her wood fired oven and hosted international guest baking chefs at the Hains House. She has hosted more than 700 guests at her Bed & Breakfast, as well as hosting numerous weddings and events at the Hains House Barn. Pat has a passion for hospitality, baking and travel. France seems the perfect place for her next adventure!

Courses devoted to the art of producing beautiful baguettes, fresh focaccia, croissants, pretzels, and bagels. Come to class each day prepared to mix, fold, shape and score. All skill levels welcome.
